Joule HistoryHistory
Joulé commenced operations in 1965 as an engineering firm that designed and built process system models to scale. Electrical, mechanical and civil engineers were brought in on a project-specific basis. Joulé's engineers assisted in the installation of primarily process systems. As an extension of this engineering service, the Industrial Services Group was created to support mechanical installation, operations and maintenance, often to the same accounts.

Joulé was a leader in providing outsourcing services, even before the concept had a name!

As Joulé grew, additional staffing support services e.g., clerical, administrative and light industrial, were added to our service offering.

In 1986, Joulé became publicly held and was listed on the American Stock Exchange under Ticker Symbol - JOL. With our listing on the AMEX, Joulé completed the transition from a Technical/Engineering company to a multi-disciplined staffing services provider.

In 1991, with the pharmaceutical industry growing in New Jersey, Joulé's Technical Staffing expanded its service program by adding scientific professionals to its service offering.

In 1999, Joulé acquired Ideal Technical Services, a highly respected provider of contract engineering staff located in Mobile, Alabama. Joulé's Technical Staffing group, with this acquisition, has now expanded beyond the Mid-Atlantic region into the dynamic Southeastern Region of the United States.

In 2003, Joulé acquired Wennik&Motta, a provider of creative and marketing professionals to the New England region. W&M is Joulé's foray into the highly valued professional staffing marketplace.

Joulé? What's in the name?
How did Joulé derive such a unique name? It is not French. The name Joulé (loosely pronounced Joe-Lay) is a direct reference to our company's initial technical and engineering focus. Joulé's chairman and founder, Emanuel Logothetis, selected the name because he was inspired during his academic studies by maverick physicist James Prescott Joule (pronounced JUL).

Peers originally rebuffed James Prescott Joule's research on the relationship between energy in its different forms. During his career, Professor Joule sought solutions to use energy more efficiently. His innovative work led to the contemporary theory of thermodynamics. Today, the term "Joule" is a universal unit for the measurement of energy.

The goals of James Prescott Joule's work, the creation of innovative and effective solutions, exemplify the values of Joulé.

Note: The accent (é) was added to reflect the way our founder's daughter pronounced the company's name as a child.
